The history of Mary Kay
Mary Kay is named after its founder, who started out with a small store in Dallas, Texas, selling just five products. She grew her business into one of the biggest beauty brands in the world! The store was called Beauty by Mary Kay and opened in 1963. The next year, she held a company convention, and in 1969 they staretd building the Mary Kay manufacturing facility. Today, the store brings in around $3.7 billion in sales annually and has 3.5 million salespeople worldwide.

Mary Kay is best known as a brand to most people, but its a brand thats named after a real person: its founder, Mary Kay. Shes done some pretty amazing stuff, like growing a tiny one location beauty supply store into one of the biggest cosmetics sellers in the world. So, lets get to know Ms. Kay a little better.
She was actually a successful direct salesperson herself. It was only after retiring from this that she opened up her beauty supply store. Using her knowledge from her career, she wrote a book that helped women succeed in the world of business, which was extremely male-dominated back then.
She opened her first store with the help of her son, Richard Rogers. Richard was just 20 years old at the time. She spent her $5,000 life savings on it. It opened on what might have been an unlucky day for some - Friday the 13th in September of 1963.
