All about Belk

Belk, which may also be written as Belk, Inc., or just belk, is a southern department store thats been around for over 100 years! The companys slogan was "All for You!" but is now "Modern. Southern. Style" to reflect its Southern roots. You can usually find a Belk location in either a mall or an open air shopping center, and you can use the store locator on their website to find a Belk store near you.

One of their most popular offerings is the Belk wedding registry. They also have a gift registry, and people often request items like crystal, dinnerware, bedding, and small appliances for their kitchens. You can get good deals on items at Belk by signing up for the Belk Rewards Card or shopping the sale sections on both their website and their store locations. Dont forget to check for deals for holidays and other special occasions!

The history of Belk

William Henry Belk founded the store that would become the popular department store in 1888. Back then, he gave it the name New York Racket, which he changed to Belk Brothers when his brother John became a partner. The idea he had was to buy products in large volumes, then pass on the savings to the customer by selling the goods at low prices.

By 1909, they had a big flagship store in downtown Charlotte, North Carolina. The brand has expanded, and today there are more than 300 Belk locations.

History of the Belk family

The store was founded by William Belk, who was joined shortly afterwards by his brother John. Author of the book Howard E. Covington Jr. traced the story of the family back all the way to 1888, the year it was founded, and followed it through until 2002.

The book was actually originally published in 1988 to celebrate the store turning 100. There are 16 chapters and 4 sections of photos that detail not only the familys history, but also the "dynamics of family leadership and control that shaped the companys first century", according to their website.

The more recent chapters talk about the third generation of Belks that are leading the store today, as well as the creation of Belk, Inc.
