The history of Family Dollar

Leon Levine founded Family Dollar in 1959 when he was just 21 years old. In just 10 years, he managed to grow his company across the south, and had 50 Family Dollar stores in Charlotte, North Carolina, alone! Things kept growing in the 1970s and 1980s, but the pace of growth slowed down in the 1990s, when they "only" opened 1,000 stores. 

Things picked up speed again in the 2000s, and Family Dollar added around 3,500 new locations. Today, they have over 8,000 locations in almost every single state!

Family Dollar launches its own TV game show

Not every store has its own game show....but Family Dollar does! The chain of variety stores has a game show that airs on Saturdays on The CW. 

The show is hosted by Pat Neely, a celebrity chef (and now TV game show host), and the idea behind it is to make saving money fun. Each week, shoppers are featured and tested on their knowledge of the biggest brands in the United States. Theyre put into teams and compete against each other in a studio that looks like your local Family Dollar.

There are three rounds, plus a bonus round where shoppers get to pick items directly off a themed prize wall - and if they win, they can go home with a huge jackpot!
