All about Capital One
Capital One is a banking company thats the eighth biggest in the United States, with around 800 Capital One locations. Ten of those locations are are styled like cafés as part of the Capital One 360 brand, their online banking division. They also have around 2,000 ATMs so customers can get out cash any time they need. They operate in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
One of the most notable things that Capital ONe has done is market credit cards on a large scale. They started doing this in the 1990s, and it was one of the first companies to do so. Today, around 62% of their annual revenue comes from credit cards, with the rest of the proportion being made up of consumer banking (28%) and commercial banking (10%).
The history of Capital One
Capital One started out as a spinoff from Signet Financial Corp. The spinoff was originally named OakStone Financial and was the credit card division. This was later renamed Capital One, and it became completely independent in 1995.
Its focus was on credit cards and other consumer lending, which is traditionally considered a risky line of business for banking. Unlike other banks who have focused on this, Capital One hasnt either been acquired or gone under.
Today, its one of the biggest banks in the United States with around 800 locations around the country.
