The history of Rite Aid

Rite Aid was founded by Alex Grass in 1962 in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The original shop had a different name though - Thrift D Discount Center, which sold health and beauty products. But in 1965, their 23rd store added a pharmacy department and the name was changed. 

The store expanded rapidly in the northeastern United States, and was in 5 more by 1965 and had 267 locations in 10 states within its first deade in business. Things kept getting bigger and better for Rite Aid, and in 2011 it was the 100th biggest U.S. coroporation, as ranked by Forbes magazine.

Rite Aid started from a company called Rack Rite in 1958. The same company foudned Trhif D Discount Center in 1962 after minimum price laws were repealed.
