The history of Designer Shoe Warehouse
The first DSW store was opened in 1991 in Ohio. Seven years later, it was bought by Value City Department Stores. By 2004, Value City was defunct and a company called Retail Ventures took over some of their subsidiary brands, including Designer Shoe Warehouse.
Up until 2005, DSW had been a subsidiary of Retail, but after Retail only owned 60% of the outstanding shares in the company.
A big change for DSW was in 2008, when they opened an e-commerce website and offered online shopping to their customers.
DSW is going to print out some of their shoes!
Designer Shoe Warehouse is going to be printing out some of their shoes using 3D printing technology. They’re teaming up with Feetz, a company that makes shoes that are not only printed using the new technology, but that are also sustainable.
They’re going to join forces to use Feetz’ technological know-how and DSW’s retail expertise to deliver people highly customizable shoes at affordable prices. There are 22 dimensions of fit involved in the process! Each customer uses the Size Me fitting system from Feetz so that they’ll get the comfiest pair of shoes possible that’s tailored exactly to their feet.
While the shoes aren’t rock bottom priced – each costs $199 – they do guarantee that you can get 500 miles of walking out of them (or, the distance from San Francisco to San Diego).
